Despite slipping on Friday, the Dow Jones Industrial Average ended the year with its best week following two consecutive sessions that established new records.
The Dow closed at 39,475.90, down 305.47 points, or 0.77%. The S&P 500 closed at 5,234.18, down 0.14% for the day. With a 0.16% gain, the Nasdaq Composite finished at 16,428.82, setting yet another record.
This week saw strong gains on all three main averages, with the S&P 500 gaining by almost 2.3%. The Dow had its best week since December, rising slightly under 2%. With an almost 2.9% jump, the Nasdaq is the outperformer among the three.
