The creator of Flexport, Ryan Petersen, spoke on September 13 in Phoenix at the top supply chain event in the continent. It had been exactly one week since he had driven Dave Clark, an ex-Amazon executive, out of his position as CEO in order to take back control of the company.
The person he had fired after only a year on the job, Clark, was present and seated in the front few seats. People with knowledge of the situation claim that Petersen was taken aback by his appearance. Days previously, Petersen had publicly blasted Clark, claiming that he had secretly increased the company’s personnel and signed superfluous leases without the knowledge of Petersen or the board. “Strategic Plan, Day 1: Make better judgements,” Petersen posted on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Petersen used a different tone while Clark was seated a short distance away.
Because of the advancements we have achieved, Petersen predicted that we will look back and say, “Wow, I’d definitely do that all over again.”
If we had to do it all over again, it would seem like hiring Clark wasn’t a horrible choice. Petersen went a step farther and thanked Clark in person for arranging the $1.3 billion acquisition of Deliverr from Shopify, acquiring supply chain technologies for last-mile deliveries. In May, the agreement was declared.
