A Memo to Staff from an OpenAI Executive Addresses CEO Sam Altman’s Firing. Go Over the Entire Memo

A brief note to staff members on Saturday was sent by OpenAI COO Brad Lightcap in response to CEO Sam Altman’s termination.

All of them were caught off guard, Lightcap stated in the memo that CNBC was able to receive. He also mentioned that he had numerous discussions with the board to try to comprehend their choice.

“It is clear that the board did not make this decision in reaction to any wrongdoing or issues with our finances, operations, security, or privacy policies,” he wrote.

Lightcap repeated Friday’s remarks from the corporation, stating that there had been a “breakdown in communication” between Altman and the board.

The company is still robust, and Microsoft is a completely committed partner, he stated, but the conversations and alternatives surrounding the future are still being discussed.

The whole memo that Lightcap distributed to staff members on Saturday morning is available here:

“Team, in an attempt to gain a deeper understanding of the rationale and methodology of the board’s decision, we have held numerous discussions with them following yesterday’s unexpected announcement. We’re still talking about these this morning, as well as our alternatives for moving forward.

We can state with certainty that the board did not make its decision in reaction to any financial mismanagement, business operations, safety concerns, or security/privacy issues. Sam and the board’s communication broke down in this way. Microsoft is still totally dedicated to our collaboration, and our company’s position is still quite solid.

As CEO, we wholeheartedly support Mira. We continue to share your concerns over the way the process has been handled; we are attempting to find a solution and will keep you informed as we can.
