Hundreds of employees in Amazon’s Prime Video and MGM Studios divisions are being laid off, as confirmed by company spokespersons. In a memo addressed to staff, Mike Hopkins, the head of these units, outlined the need for these job cuts in order to prioritize long-term success.
Hopkins explained that the company has conducted a comprehensive review of its operations over the past year, aiming to enhance its ability to provide exceptional movies, TV shows, and live sports while delivering a personalized and user-friendly entertainment experience to its global customers. Consequently, certain areas of investment will be reduced or discontinued, allowing for a greater focus on content and product initiatives that yield the highest impact.
This strategic decision will lead to the elimination of several hundred roles across Amazon’s Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios organizations.
