A muted-than-expected inflation report suggested that the Federal Reserve may lower interest rates next month, and Tuesday saw both the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite closing at new all-time highs.
By the conclusion of the day, the tech-heavy Nasdaq was up 1.39% at 21,681.90, while the broad-based S&P was up 1.13% at 6,445.76.
To close at 44,458.61, the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 483.52 points, or 1.10%.
Investors were soothed by Tuesday’s release of new inflation statistics after they had been concerned that President Donald Trump’s extensive tariff measures would cause prices in the US economy to rise.
