Following the release of new inflation data, stock futures experienced a slight decline on Thursday. The S&P 500 futures dipped approximately 0.1%, while Nasdaq 100 futures showed a minimal increase of less than 0.1%. Dow Jones Industrial Average futures also saw a slight decline of 18 points, equating to less than 0.1%.
The consumer price index report for December indicated a slightly higher-than-expected increase of 0.3% in consumer prices for the month. This pushed the annual rate to 3.4%. Economists surveyed by Dow Jones had forecasted a 0.2% rise in CPI for December and a 3.2% increase on a year-over-year basis.
However, the core CPI, which excludes food and energy prices, aligned with expectations and suggested the presence of ongoing inflation pressures that are gradually subsiding.
