As investors began to welcome some stocks outside of the technological bull market leaders this week, the Dow Jones Industrial Average surged to a new high thanks to advances in Home Depot and Caterpillar.
To reach a new high above 40,000, the Dow gained 487 points, or 1.2%. It had not been above 40,000 since it had surpassed the round number milestone in late May.
With the addition of 3%, Home Depot’s weekly gain now stands at about 8%.
Caterpillar increased by 1.8%. After dropping below the 5,600 mark on Thursday, the S&P 500 gained 1.2% and crossed over once more. It was a 1.4% gain for the Nasdaq Composite.
