After threatening heavy tariffs on additional nations over the weekend, U.S. equities futures fell early Monday.
However, they were off their lowest points as investors wagered that the charges will eventually be negotiated down. The second-quarter earnings season, which intensifies this week, also gave investors hope.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 140 points, or 0.3%, in futures.
Futures for the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq 100 both fell by 0.3%. Overnight, Dow futures fell more than 200 points.
