On Wednesday, the S&P 500 remained largely unchanged, retreating from earlier record highs amid declines in some major technology stocks.
Meanwhile, the Dow Jones Industrial Average bucked the trend and rose, supported by strong earnings reports and gains in Nvidia stock.
The broad market index hovered just above flat territory at the close, while the 30-stock Dow advanced by 391 points, or 0.7%. The Nasdaq Composite underperformed, dropping 0.5%.
This Wednesday’s activity interrupted the S&P 500’s recent winning streak, which had seen it close higher in the last four sessions. The Dow, on the other hand, was on track for its fifth consecutive positive day.
