Microsoft is advising developers working on AI coding projects to prioritize OpenAI’s leading models over competing products, aiming to boost efficiency.
In a memo to employees viewed by CNBC, Jay Parikh, Executive Vice President of Microsoft’s CoreAI engineering group, explained, “Internally, shifting more workloads to OpenAI models helps us derive greater value from our token investment.”
Tokens are a measure of AI processing scale, with one token roughly equivalent to three-quarters of a word.
Although Microsoft has developed its own AI programming models and provides cloud customers access to over 11,000 models including those from Anthropic the company encourages staff to leverage the intellectual property rights associated with its early investments in OpenAI.
