OpenAI Buys Rockset, a Database Analytics Company

ChatGPT developer OpenAI, which has backing from Microsoft, has bought search and database analytics company Rockset for an undisclosed amount.

As more apps utilise artificial intelligence to power recommendation engines, voice assistants, chatbots, and anomaly detection, vector search—a technology that Rockset offers—has benefited from growing popularity.

The reasons for its importance

The retrieval infrastructure of ChatGPT’s products will be powered by it and integrated into OpenAI.

This implies that OpenAI will be able to access and analyse massive volumes of data more quickly because to Rockset’s experience with real-time data processing and vector search, which should result in AI models responding more swiftly and accurately.

Background

In order to keep ahead of the competition, OpenAI is adding new features to ChatGPT and creating new AI models to counteract the likes of Anthropic and Alphabet’s Google, among others.

Reuters, OpenAI has been working on a search engine solution to take on Google and the AI search firm Perplexity.

This was reported last month. Greylock, Sequoia, and the venture capital division of Hewlett Packard Enterprise are among the investors in Rockset, which reported raising $105 million in total financing in August of last year.
