Tencent has spent years developing into one of China’s largest gaming and social media companies, while also expanding its cloud computing skills.
As Tencent’s cloud group CEO, Dowson Tong, told CNBC, the tech company is now trying to extend that knowledge to Europe as it steps up its international cloud business expansion.
Last week, Tong stated in an interview that “we have strengths and competence in very specific technology areas, as well as industry verticals.”
“Our products in China are the first to demonstrate these extremely unique technological capabilities, which have been developed over many years.”
Thus, we plan to introduce a significant amount of this technological know-how to Europe. We are speaking with numerous prospective clients who are interested.
With a combined 70% market share in Europe’s cloud space, Tencent’s European effort will pit it against American hyperscalers Amazon, Microsoft, and Alphabet-owned Google.
