PARIS — On Wednesday, Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Ring, their first attempt at a “smart ring.”
In an attempt to counter Apple’s entry into the market, the South Korean tech behemoth is aiming to incorporate its wearables and smartphones with health-tracking capabilities.
Samsung announced the Galaxy Ring, which it has been hinting at for a few months, at its Galaxy Unpacked presentation on Wednesday in Paris, France. The Galaxy Ring is a thin ring with sensors built in for health monitoring around-the-clock.
Samsung’s entry into a new product category coincides with a modest uptick in smartphone sales, although consumers are keeping their phones longer.
Device manufacturers are searching for additional electrical items to market. Alongside its smartphones and smartwatches, Samsung now offers a new product in its lineup—the Galaxy Ring—that can track health-related aspects.
Samsung has been pushing its health applications, which are becoming more and more well-liked among consumers, as a major selling point for these kinds of devices during the last few years.
