Stock Futures Inch Higher as the S&P 500 Closes Above 5,300 for the First Time

Stock futures rose slightly Thursday after a lower-than-expected inflation estimate spurred the major averages to new highs.

Futures for the Dow Jones Industrial Average and S&P 500 were both slightly higher, while Nasdaq-100 futures increased 0.1%.

Walmart shares rose more than 4% in early Thursday trade after the retailer posted better-than-expected quarterly results. The three major averages closed at all-time highs on Wednesday, with the S&P 500 surpassing 5,300 for the first time.
