As investors placed bets that the failed attempt on the life of former President Donald Trump would result in significant victories for the Republican presidential candidate and the GOP in November polls, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose on Monday.
A further expansion of the bull market that began to take shape last week was expected to be fueled by more benevolent fiscal policies in the future.
On Monday, small-cap stocks and banks led the gains. The S&P 500 remained almost unchanged, but the blue-chip Dow increased 163 points, or 0.4%.
Both reached fresh highs for the day during the session. There were also minimal changes on the Nasdaq Composite.
