Stock futures remained relatively stable on Sunday night as investors look forward to a crucial meeting of the Federal Reserve. During this meeting, central bankers are expected to announce a reduction in interest rates, marking the first cut since 2020.
Futures linked to the S&P 500 hovered just above the unchanged mark. Meanwhile, futures for the Dow Jones Industrial Average increased by 83 points, or 0.2%. In contrast, Nasdaq-100 futures dipped slightly, down by 0.2%.
Currently, the S&P 500 is less than 1% away from its record high set in July and has the potential to reach a new all-time high this week. After experiencing a challenging start to September—a month that historically tends to be weak for the market—the three major U.S. stock indexes finished last week’s trading session with gains. Notably, both the S&P 500 and the technology-focused Nasdaq Composite had their best week of 2024.
