Stocks increased Tuesday as investors reacted favourably to the possibility that the Federal Reserve would be able to lower interest rates next month if an inflation report was less aggressive than anticipated.
At 0.9%, the Dow Jones Industrial Average increased 411 points.
The Nasdaq Composite and S&P 500 both saw gains of 0.6%.
There was a fresh intraday high for the tech-heavy index shortly after the open.
The announcement of new inflation figures on Tuesday gave investors peace of mind after they had been concerned that President Donald Trump’s extensive tariff policies would cause prices in the US economy to rise.
