On Friday, stock futures declined as investors awaited the release of the second significant inflation report of the week. Dow Jones Industrial Average futures fell by 0.2%, equivalent to 56 points. Similarly, S&P 500 futures and Nasdaq 100 futures both experienced a 0.1% and 0.2% drop, respectively.
These movements follow a relatively uneventful day on Wall Street, with the Dow edging up about 15 points, the S&P 500 finishing slightly lower, and the Nasdaq Composite closing unchanged. At 8:30 a.m. ET, the producer price index will be published, with economists surveyed by Dow Jones estimating a 0.1% increase for the December reading.
This data release follows the recent publication of consumer inflation data, which revealed that prices in December rose by 0.3% on a monthly basis and 3.4% compared to a year ago, exceeding economists’ expectations.
