The Dow and S&P 500 reached fresh highs on Friday, setting the stage for their strongest week in a year since the election of Donald Trump.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average hit 44,000 for the first time, rising more than 300 points at its peak.
Last year, the blue-chip average increased by 274 points. The S&P 500 gained 0.4% and momentarily crossed the 6,000 mark.
Both of those averages reached record highs during the day. The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite did not alter much and behind.
Thanks in significant part to Wednesday’s massive spike after Trump’s victory, all three of the main averages are predicted to have strong weekly gains. Despite the Dow’s 4.6% gain, the S&P 500 is up roughly 4.6% for the week.
One of the greatest weeks since November 2023 is expected for both indexes. The small-cap benchmark Russell 2000 is up more than 8% so far this week, while the Nasdaq is beating even those advances, advancing 5.4%.
