Daniel Ek of Spotify Leads a $694 Million Investment in Helsing, a Defence Firm

On Tuesday, Helsing, a European defence technology firm, said that it has raised a spectacular new round of funding totalling 600 million euros ($693.6 million).

The investment was spearheaded by Shakil Khan, an early investor in the well-known music streaming service, and Daniel Ek, the CEO of Spotify, who created the venture capital firm Prima Materia. Ek also serves as Helsing’s chairman.

Alongside new investors BDT & MSD Partners, existing investors Lightspeed Venture Partners, Accel, Plural, General Catalyst, and Saab also contributed funds.

Due to major international conflicts, such as the war between Israel and Gaza and the situation in Ukraine, investors have recently shown a strong interest in defence and the technology that supports it.

Israel launched several airstrikes against Iran last week, significantly intensifying the conflict in the Middle East.
