Lily Cheng, a product design director at Big Health, a Silicon Valley-based health tech company, is an expert in the field of technology and behavioral change. Recognizing the ever-increasing importance of generative AI skills, Cheng has taken up courses from renowned institutions like Google, Coursera, Stanford, and online platform Maven Learning to further enhance her expertise.
Cheng, who has an extensive background in design, having previously worked as a design lead at Fitbit and graduated from Stanford University, emphasizes the need for continuous learning. She believes that understanding GenAI is crucial as it has the potential to revolutionize the tech industry and shape future job opportunities. With technology advancing rapidly, it becomes essential to stay updated, as failing to do so can render one obsolete in the fast-paced tech landscape.
As the demand for Gen AI skills grows and new AI-powered technologies emerge, there is a rising trend in workforce and professional training. Major tech companies, universities like Stanford, MIT, and Harvard, as well as online education platforms such as Maven, Udacity, and Udemy, offer training programs to bridge the skills gap.
Salesforce, for instance, has introduced a Gen AI component to its free online learning platform, Trailhead, which has already trained over 6 million individuals since its launch in 2014. Trailhead is designed to make learning enjoyable and provides badges to participants who complete various trails or modules to acquire new skills. Since June, more than 700,000 badges specifically related to AI skills have been earned, highlighting the growing interest and importance of AI in the industry.
