Warren Buffett fears that more people are trying to profit from his brand by posing as him and endorsing a political candidate or investment product on social media.
It was so important that Berkshire Hathaway took the unusual step of placing a statement about the issue on the homepage of their website.
It says:
Because social media is being used more often, there have been a lot of false allegations about Mr. Buffett endorsing financial goods and supporting political candidates. Neither now nor in the future will Mr. Buffett sponsor and endorse political candidates or investment products.
The Berkshire chairman and CEO explained, “We put that on the Berkshire website because I’m concerned about individuals impersonating me. People who claim to be advising others on how to vote or invest should not be trusted.
Buffett’s remarks coincide with a contentious political season in which prominent figures from Silicon Valley and Wall Street, like Elon Musk, Bill Ackman, and Mark Cuban, are divided over the impasse between former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris in the presidential election.
Bill Gates is quietly endorsing Harris by giving $50 million to an organisation that supports her campaign.
