As investors took in important testimony from Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell, the S&P 500 surged to a new high on Tuesday.
Reaching an all-time high, the broad market index increased by 0.2%. In addition, the Nasdaq Composite set a record and recently increased by 0.2%.
With a loss of 50 points, or 0.1%, the Dow Jones Industrial Average trailed.
Powell made a suggestion in prepared remarks that the central bank may consider adopting a less restrictive posture by warning that maintaining interest rates high for an extended period of time could jeopardise future economic development.
