Waymo’s co-CEO, Tekedra Mawakana, made the statement on LinkedIn that the company is currently offering over 100,000 paid robotaxi rides per week in the US.
That is twice as many as the 50,000 paid trips per week the business disclosed in May. San Francisco currently “serves the most trips” out of the cities where Waymo operates its commercial service, which are San Francisco, Phoenix, Austin, and Los Angeles, an official with the Alphabet-owned driverless vehicle business told CNBC on Tuesday.
Waymo began as a self-driving project at Alphabet in 2009, and last month the business revealed that it was receiving an extra $5 billion in funding.
In order to provide driverless services in a greater range of weather conditions and with fewer expensive cameras and sensors in its cars, Waymo unveiled details about its new “generation 6” self-driving technology on Monday.
