Apple Looks to its Horde of Developers for an Advantage as it Enters the AI Race

Apple is leveraging one of its biggest advantages—a army of 34 million app developers—as it gets ready to launch Apple Intelligence into the AI competition in Silicon Valley.

Later this month, iPhone customers will receive a preview of Apple Intelligence, the company’s artificial intelligence system. The iPhone 16, the newest model of handsets from the firm, is expected to have Apple Intelligence as its main selling point.

Apple’s artificial intelligence isn’t as sophisticated as the cutting edge emerging from the most sophisticated labs, as demonstrated by competitors like OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Google’s Gemini, and Meta’s Llama.

Apple does not use the largest models, nor is it able to execute some of the more impressive feats of the state-of-the-art speech models; OpenAI’s most recent model, for instance, has the ability to sing.

Siri might be able to perform tasks on your phone, such as sending emails, interpreting calendars, and taking and editing pictures, which is where Apple hopes to set its AI apart.

AI chatbots from other companies are now unable to achieve that, therefore Apple is calling on its vast network of third-party developers to refine their apps in order to work with Apple Intelligence.
