As Trade Tensions Increase Globally, Stocks Decline as Traders await Powell’s Speech

US equities fell Tuesday as investors awaited Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell’s speech and worried about a potential rise in trade tensions around the world.

0.2%, or 104 points, were taken off the Dow Jones Industrial Average.

Both the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq Composite had a 0.2% decline.

The head of the central bank is scheduled to speak before the Senate Banking Committee on Tuesday and then the House Financial Services Committee the following day.

Both events will begin with prepared statements from Powell at 10 a.m. ET.
