The S&P 500 Drops from its Record High as Stocks Decline on Wednesday

Following a record-breaking session on Wall Street, stocks experienced a modest decline on Wednesday.

The Nasdaq Composite dropped 0.3%, and the S&P 500 faltered by 0.2%. 0.4%, or 168 points, were taken off the Dow Jones Industrial Average.

With drops of almost 1% each, Home Depot and Sherwin-Williams topped the Dow’s declines.

Materials lost 1%, making it the S&P 500’s worst-performing sector. The S&P 500 energy sector gained 1.4%, defying the trend.

Tuesday saw the broad market index reach a record high despite ongoing worries about President Donald Trump’s trade policy and sticky inflation.

At 6,129.58, the benchmark achieved a record close after setting an intraday high of 6,129.63.
