OpenAI Trial Updates: Altman Says Musk’s Departure Boosted Morale for Some Employees

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman shared some insights on Tuesday about Elon Musk’s leadership style.

He mentioned that Musk’s way of managing the company sometimes “demotivated” some of OpenAI’s researchers.

Altman also said that Musk’s departure from the company was actually a positive change that boosted team morale.

Altman explained that he doesn’t believe Musk fully understood how to effectively run a research lab, which is a place where scientists and engineers work together to develop new artificial intelligence technologies.

Altman spoke about these points while testifying in a federal court case in Oakland, California. This case involves Elon Musk’s lawsuit against OpenAI.

Before Altman took the stand, Bret Taylor, who is the chairman of OpenAI’s board, also testified.

Taylor discussed how the company is organized and the role of the board in making important decisions for OpenAI.
