Google to Release First Smart Glasses Since Google Glass Flop

More than a decade after the failure of Google Glass, Google is planning to reintroduce smart glasses later this fall.

These new glasses will feature a small camera in the frames and speakers in the arms, enabling interaction with Google’s AI product Gemini.

Unveiled at Google’s annual developer conference, the glasses come in styles designed by Warby Parker and Gentle Monster.

Originally launched in 2013 and discontinued in 2015 due to privacy and pricing concerns, the new smart glasses aim to offer hands-free, heads-up assistance, working with both Android and iOS devices.

They will primarily provide spoken help via Gemini, without displaying information on a screen.

A version with an in-lens display capable of showing text is in development, with more details expected later this year. Developers are already creating applications for these display glasses.
