The S&P 500 edged lower on Wednesday, retreating from earlier record highs, mainly due to declines in some leading tech stocks.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average moved higher, supported by strong earnings reports and gains in Nvidia stock.
The broader market index fell by 0.2%, while the Dow increased by 263 points, or 0.5%. The Nasdaq Composite underperformed, dropping 0.8%.
This decline ended a four-day winning streak for the S&P 500, while the Dow was on track for its fifth consecutive day of gains.
