Following a Thorough Regulatory Assessment, Microsoft Completes the $69 Billion Acquisition of Activision Blizzard

Activision Blizzard’s publisher deal with Microsoft for $69 billion has been finalised, the business announced in a regulatory statement on Friday. It’s the biggest deal Microsoft has ever made in its 48-year history and comes after the business allayed competition-related worries from U.K. and European regulators and won a favourable decision from a U.S. district judge.

The deal was approved early on Friday by the U.K.’s Competition and Markets Authority, paving the path for the closing.

The agreement, which was made public in January 2022, offers Microsoft access to a significant portfolio of video game titles, including Warcraft, Call of Duty, Crash Bandicoot, Diablo, Overwatch, StarCraft, and Tony Hawk Pro Skater. A modest portion of Microsoft’s $212 billion in revenues, the game developer’s most recent fiscal year saw $7.5 billion in revenue.

In a blog post, Phil Spencer, the CEO of Microsoft Gaming, stated that “today we start the journey to bring beloved Activision, Blizzard, and King franchises to Game Pass and other platforms.” In the upcoming months, we’ll talk more about the specific dates you can look forward to.
