Over 500 Workers at Amazon’s Twitch Division are Let Go

In a memo circulated among staff on Wednesday, an executive overseeing Amazon’s Twitch livestreaming unit disclosed that around 500 employees would be laid off. Twitch CEO Dan Clancy clarified that these cutbacks were necessary to “optimize our workforce” and ensure it is in line with the current size of the business.

Amazon acquired Twitch for nearly $1 billion in 2014, solidifying its position as a renowned livestreaming platform mainly for video gamers. While Amazon has maintained a hands-off approach to the unit since the acquisition, it has provided exclusive benefits to Prime subscribers on the platform, including complimentary games and in-game rewards.
