Apple to Sidestep Ban by Selling Newest Apple Watches without Blood Oxygen Measurement

In order to maintain its ability to sell its latest Apple Watches in the U.S. amid an ongoing legal battle with Masimo, Apple has made the decision to remove the blood oxygen feature from the devices.

Apple announced that modified versions of the Apple Watch Series 9 and Ultra 2, which were originally introduced in September, will be available for purchase starting Thursday. However, users will now find that tapping on the blood oxygen icon will display an alert directing them to an explanation on Apple’s website, as the feature itself has been removed.

This move comes as a result of Apple’s intellectual property dispute with Masimo, a medical device company. In fact, back in October, the International Trade Commission ruled in favor of Masimo, determining that Apple’s watch sensors for blood oxygen had indeed infringed on Masimo’s patents.
