Stocks increased on Tuesday as investors grew more optimistic that the Federal Reserve could vote against raising interest rates when it makes its next policy decision this week. New inflation data revealed that price pressures slowed again in May.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average ended the day at 34,212.12 after trading 145.79 points higher, or 0.43%, higher. The Nasdaq Composite rose 0.83% to 13,573.32, while the S&P 500 gained 0.69% to finish at 4,369.01.
Tuesday’s session saw new 13-month highs for both the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq. On Monday, each indicator reached its best closing levels since April 2022.
