After Dismal Economic Data, Stocks Have Not Moved Much to Start the Morning

On the strength of positive labour data, stocks saw minimal movement on Wednesday as traders prepared for a shortened session.

Only 46 points, or 0.1%, were added to the Dow Jones Industrial Average. The Nasdaq Composite and S&P 500 were both circling the flatline.

Ahead of Friday’s crucial jobs report, investors scrutinised data provided early on Wednesday that indicated a slowdown in the labour market.

Although weekly unemployment claims statistics exceeded economists’ expectations, ADP data revealed less private payroll growth than anticipated in June.

Because the New York Stock Exchange closes early on Wednesday at 1 p.m. ET, trading activity is probably going to be low. On Thursday in observance of Independence Day, the exchange will be closed.
