After the S&P 500 Crosses the Historic 5,000 Threshold, Stock Futures Barely Moved

Stock futures were relatively unchanged on Friday morning following the S&P 500’s achievement of surpassing the historic 5,000 milestone for the first time during intraday trading.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average futures remained steady, while S&P 500 futures showed a slight increase of 0.1% and Nasdaq 100 futures edged up by 0.3%.

On Thursday, the S&P 500 reached a peak of 5,000.40 in regular trading, closing just below the significant 5,000 level. The milestone of crossing 4,000 was first reached on April 1, 2021, signifying nearly three years to gain the final 1,000 points. A positive earnings season, favorable inflation data, and a resilient economy have been key drivers of the market rally heading into 2024, with the S&P 500 showing a 4.8% gain for the year.
