Ahead of U.S. Inflation Statistics, European Markets are Flat; Siemens Energy and Just Eat Takeaway are Up

With attention on the approaching U.S. inflation data, European stocks were trading near the flatline on Wednesday. By mid-morning, the Stoxx 600 index for all of Europe was flat, with most sectors in negative territory.

After the firm announced that it had reached an agreement to sell its U.S. division, Grubhub, to Wonder for $650 million, shares of Just Eat Takeaway’s stock shot up 20% just after the market opened on Wednesday.

With its shares soaring 19.1% on Wednesday morning following the German energy company’s improvement of its mid-term financial forecasts, Siemens Energy was also the index’s top performer.

After the Dutch lender reported a 9% decline in quarterly net profit compared to a year earlier, shares of ABN Amro began about 1% lower. Allianz’s stock increased by 0.5% at the open following a 22% increase in third-quarter net earnings by the financial services group, which exceeded forecasts.
