As Declining Oil Prices Boost Stocks, the Dow Closes More Than 250 Points Higher and the S&P 500 Gains

As investors sought a series of megacap technology earnings to continue propelling the Nasdaq Composite to new heights this week, stocks surged on Monday.

Risk sentiment was bolstered by a decreasing geopolitical environment.

The closing price of the S&P 500 was 5,823.52, up 0.27%. The Dow Jones Industrial Average finished at 42,387.57, up 273.17 points, or 0.65%. With a 0.26% increase, the Nasdaq closed at 18,567.19.

Oil prices fell on the day after Israel’s weekend airstrikes against Iran failed to hit nuclear or oil facilities as was initially thought. Both international benchmark Brent and U.S. crude futures fell 6%.
