As Investors Strive to Offset Some of September’s Losses, the S&P 500 Increases on Monday

In the penultimate week of a month that has seen significant losses thus far, September, the S&P 500 moved up a little on Monday as the 10-year Treasury increased.

While the Nasdaq Composite increased by 0.3%, the wider index increased by 0.3%. Flat was the Dow Jones Industrial Average.

The 10-year Treasury yield yesterday increased by more than 8 basis points, rising to 4.527%, its highest level since 4.57% in 2007.

The 30-stock index’s top performer was the industrial giant Dow, whose shares recently increased 1.9% following a JPMorgan upgrade. With a 1% increase, energy was the S&P 500’s largest gainer.

After the online retail behemoth announced Monday that it will invest up to $4 billion in artificial intelligence company Anthropic, Amazon shares increased by more than 1%. Apple increased by almost 1%. Nvidia’s stock increased by more than 1%.
