Thursday saw an increase in S&P 500 futures following a significant market sell-off earlier in the week, as fresh labour market data restored investor confidence in the US economy.
Futures linked to the overall market index increased by 0.8%. The Dow Jones Industrial Average futures saw a 0.4% increase, or 149 points. Nasdaq-100 futures saw a 1.1% increase.
Recent worries about the strength of the labour market were eased when the most recent weekly unemployment claims fell short of projections.
The number of new applications for unemployment benefits was 233,000 last week, which was less than the Dow Jones estimate of 240,000 and a decrease of 17,000 from the week before.
