Investors should be aware of the following five important points before the trading day begins:

1. Sell-off of tech As IT names plummeted and investors were concerned about economic data, stocks dipped on Tuesday. During the day, the Dow Jones Industrial Average sank 178.20 points, or 0.42%, while the S&P 500 fell 1.11%.

2. Transformation Meta, the company of Facebook and Instagram, is discontinuing its third-party fact-checking services. Rather, the tech business will be using a “Community Notes” model on its platforms, which is akin to Elon Musk’s X.

3. What is the value of AI?
Profits from artificial intelligence continue to rise. Anthropic, an AI business valued at $60 billion, is in the last stages of negotiations to fund up to $2 billion.

4. Vacation snags Online buyers this holiday season weren’t hesitant to open their virtual money. Compared to the same period last year, online spending rose 8.7% in November and December.

5. Wildfires in California Wildfires spread quickly across a wealthy area of Los Angeles, forcing tens of thousands of residents to flee their homes.
