Bill Gates has warned that there is currently “no plan” to address the “social, political, and economic upheaval” that AI may trigger.
The Microsoft co-founder emphasized that AI has the potential to be either the “greatest equalizer ever invented” or the “worst source of injustice.”
However, he expressed concern that there is no clear evidence that leaders, experts, or communities are adequately prepared to face these challenges.
In an essay published on Wednesday, Gates highlighted that AI could lead to widespread job displacement, disrupt entry-level hiring, and compel policymakers to rethink approaches to employment, education, and social safety nets.
