Tuesday’s decline in stock futures put the Dow Jones Industrial Average and S&P 500 on track to compound their losses from the previous session.
Futures linked to the 30-stock Dow fell 158 points, or 0.4%, as shares of UnitedHealth declined. The S&P 500 futures also decreased by 0.2%, and the Nasdaq 100 futures decreased by 0.3%.
Health insurers also suffered in the premarket following the Centres for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ finalisation of the 2025 rate announcement for Medicare Advantage and prescription drug coverage.
In 2025, government payments towards these plans are expected to rise 3.7% year over year, unchanged from an earlier proposed rate. Humana saw a decline of 9%, UnitedHealth dropped 3.7%, and CVS Health fell 5%.
