Stocks experienced a positive upswing on Monday as investors continued to build on the previous session’s remarkable surge to reach new record highs.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average increased by 127 points, equivalent to 0.3%, reaching an unprecedented level. In a similar fashion, the S&P 500 also climbed by 0.3%, establishing a fresh all-time high. The Nasdaq Composite showed significant progress by advancing 0.5%.
Macy’s observed a notable rise of over 3% after declining a $5.8 billion proposal aimed at privatizing the retailer. Meanwhile, SolarEdge surged by almost 4% following their announcement of a workforce reduction amounting to 16%.
In contrast, Archer-Daniels-Midland faced a significant decline of over 21% due to issuing a discouraging earnings forecast and placing CFO Vikram Luthar on leave due to an ongoing investigation related to accounting practices. B Riley Financial also experienced a slight decrease of nearly 4% after reports emerged of regulatory investigations surrounding deals with a client allegedly involved in securities fraud.
The gains witnessed on Monday reflect the breakthrough made by the broad S&P 500 index on Friday, surpassing both its previous intraday and closing record highs established in January 2022. This achievement solidifies the fact that Wall Street is currently experiencing a bullish market trend, which commenced in October 2022 after a challenging period of stock market decline earlier that year.
