Strong earnings results from some of the biggest banks and firms marked the beginning of the earnings season, helping the Dow Jones Industrial Average rise on Friday.
The 30-stock Dow gained 113.89 points, or 0.33%, to close at 34,509.03, making it five days in a row that it has increased. The S&P 500 fell 0.10% to end the day at 4,505.42. At 14,113.70, the Nasdaq Composite was down 0.18% for the day. Since April 2022, the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq reached their best intraday values.
The Dow posted its best weekly performance since March, up 2.3%. The Nasdaq rose 3.3% and the S&P 500 increased by 2.4%.
