Stocks had a stellar day on Tuesday, with the S&P 500 and Dow Jones Industrial Average reaching new all-time highs, fueled by strong earnings reports and a further decline in oil prices amid hopes that the Strait of Hormuz could reopen.
The S&P 500 climbed 1.79%, closing at 7,736.52 its first record high since June. The Nasdaq Composite soared 2.59% to finish at 26,584.99, boosted by a 29% rally in Palantir Technologies.
The Dow jumped 907.47 points, or 1.71%, ending the day at 54,085.88. Notably, Caterpillar led the Dow with over a 5% increase, surpassing its intraday record from last month.
Both the S&P 500 and the Dow also posted record closing levels.
