Stocks fell on Friday as traders were concerned about a combination of tariff and inflation-related news as the week came to a close.
During the day, major benchmarks fell as President Donald Trump announced he was considering imposing reciprocal tariffs on trading partners.
Raising tariffs to the same levels as those imposed to the United States could be one way to achieve this.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 1%, or roughly 444 points.
Approximately 1% was lost by the S&P 500, and 1.4% was lost by the Nasdaq Composite. The major averages’ gains for the week were largely erased by Friday’s losses.
