Futures linked to the very tech-heavy Nasdaq-100 increased on Wednesday following the news that Netflix had achieved a record number of subscribers in the fourth quarter.
Futures on the S&P 500 gained 0.5%, while those on the Nasdaq 100 increased by 0.9%. The Dow Jones Industrial Average futures increased by 0.4%, or 141 points.
In premarket trading, Netflix shares increased by over 9%. The streamer reported that it added over 13 million new users in the fourth quarter, reaching an all-time high of 260.8 million subscribers overall, which prompted the leg up. Both revenue and the outlook for current-quarter profitability exceeded analysts’ expectations.
