Recovering from Consecutive Losses, the S&P 500 Modestly Increases

Tuesday saw a modest increase in US stocks as traders attempted to continue the upward trend that had brought stocks to all-time highs following the previous session’s selloff.

By Monday’s end, all three main averages were down. The S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite both declined by about 0.3%, while the 30-stock Dow fell by 0.4%. The Dow and S&P 500 had lost for the second straight day.

The sharp advances from last week, when the indexes hit new closing high levels, have been followed by the pullbacks.

The main U.S. market benchmarks are currently on track to post their sixth consecutive winning month. Over 2% has been gained by the broad market index in March. While the Dow is up, the Nasdaq Composite is up 1.8% for the time.
