The S&P 500 climbed modestly on Monday, with Nvidia leading tech companies higher and investors anticipating the Federal Reserve’s interest rate announcement.
The broader market index rose 0.2%, while the Nasdaq Composite rose 0.3%. The Dow Jones Industrial Average advanced 58 points, or 0.1%.
Nvidia stock rose 1% when the 10-for-1 split took effect. Meta shares also rose 1%, boosting the S&P 500 tech sector by 0.5%.
The Fed’s most recent rate decision and May’s consumer price index, both scheduled for Wednesday, could be crucial tests for markets, especially after Friday’s strong jobs report suggested the central bank may postpone rate cuts.
